PSN down for hours to bring PS Stroe back
Sony said mid-Wednesday that it was taking down the PlayStation Network for several hours to help finish the restoration process. Starting "soon," it would go down for multiple hours and was key to bringing back the PlayStation Store. Users who were still online during the downtime would stay signed into PSN, but fresh logins wouldn't work until the maintenance was done.
The company was "still on track" to have nearly all of the service back up by the end of the week in most countries.
Sony is in a race to get PSN back up and running in all capacities as it's about to head into E3, the largest gaming convention in the world and frequently the destination for major game releases. Developers have warned that the PlayStation Store's outage has cost them money as they not only can't post new online-only games but are also missing out on downloadable extras, even those that are free.
When the shop comes back, Sony has promised at least two free games for PS3 and PSP owners as a way of regaining their trust.
