Nintendo vows free games for 3DS update

Nintendo gave an extra treat to those who get the June 6 update for the 3DS. Along with the browser and eShop, gamers get free copies of both a 3D-upgraded port of the NES classic Excitebike and a new Pokedex 3D. The new app both shows collected Pokemon characters in 3D and supports augmented reality markers to show them in 3D in a 'real' environment.

Also coming with the update are the ability to port over "most" DSiWare games from an older system to a 3DS as well as hooks for the free app to download short 3D videos, such as music videos, comedy sketches, or movie trailers. The browser will have a unique option to show 3D photos when they appear.

Getting the update will only require checking for an update in the system settings on the evening of June 6. The game extras should be available the following day.
