Samsung Smart View and Remote 2.0 apps go live

Samsung deepened the links between its TVs and phones Thursday with both Android and iOS apps. Smart View for Android (free, Market) now gives users two-way media sharing. Those with a Galaxy S II or a similar phone can stream cable TV, Blu-ray, or any other video source from the TV to the phone itself. They can likewise browse the set's Smart TV apps and can watch content from one source while the TV is used for another.

It still supports remote controlling the TV itself and browse program information when it's accessible to the phone. Running the app needs a D7000, D8000, or D9500 TV as well as a Galaxy S II for now, though the Galaxy Players should get it in July and both the original Galaxy S and Galaxy Tab will get it before year's end.

iPhone and iPod owners were simultaneously given some of the features on their own devices. The Samsung Remote 2.0 update (free, App Store) doesn't explicitly carry the live streaming but does allow browsing the set's Smart TV apps much like the Android counterpart. A freshened interface and support for 2011 TVs are equally new.

The app still has extras such as a remote mode tailored to Smart TV games. Anyone with an iOS 3.1.2 device or later can use it with 2010 and 2011 Internet-aware TVs as well as 2011 Blu-ray players.
