Wipeout and UNCHARTED previewed

Sony is currently previewing select games that will be available when the company's NGP handheld arrives on the market. Ahead of E3, the company is holding a private event at the Sony Pictures soundstage in LA to show off the highlight title, Uncharted: Golden Abyss, along with other games such as Hot Shots Golf, Wipeout, Hustle Kings, Soundshapes, and Super Stardust Delta.

"We'll talk more about social connectivity features down the line - today is about showing off the core games and getting you hands-on time," said SCE president Shuhel Yoshida "I'm sure you have burning questions on launch date, pricing, 3G data plans, and we'll be very happy to share all those with you moving forward."

A preview video for Uncharted includes an interview segment with John Garvin and Chris Reese of Sony Bend Studio. A second video focuses on Wipeout, with comments from game director Stu Tilley.

Wipeout users will be able to take advantage of multi-platform gaming, competing between respective titles on the NGP and PS3. The multiplayer sessions are said to support seven opponents in multiplayer sessions, using any combination of handheld and full-size console.

The NGP brings a unique approach to gaming, with less hardware buttons than the standard PlayStation controller. The handheld instead relies on six-axis motion controls and dual touchscreens, tracking hand placement on the front display and back panel.
