We show at Microsoft's E3 2011 keynote
We're in person at Microsoft's E3 2011 keynote. The company is expected to show headlining games, such as Halo 4 and Kinect Star Wars, but might also have surprises in store such as an Xbox Live Diamond TV subscription service. Check in after the story break at 12:30PM Eastern, 9:30AM Pacific for regular updates from the Galen Center in Los Angeles.
11:00AM: And it's over.
10:59AM: Wrapping up: Halo 4! Not much other than showing the Master Chief escaping the ship he was in cryo sleep on from the third game, and Cortana waking him up.
10:56AM: Dance Central 2 demo: you can import your old songs. Two-player simultaneous dance; coordination gets extra scores.
10:53AM: Kinect Sports: Season Two adds extras like skiing, darts, and tennis. Enhanced by in-game voice and new Kinect gestures. More realistic than ever. Football and golf on demo. Golf gives full-body gestures for swings and putts. Football lets you call the hike and choose the plays.
10:48AM: Kudo Tsunoda up to show Kinect Fun Labs: a permanent addition to the Dashboard for experiments. An example: use it to create an avatar based on how you look. Kinect Sparkler: finger tracking: you can draw around an image that's manipulated in 3D. Extremely cool.
10:41AM: Tim Schaefer of Double Fine shows Once Upon a Monster, the Sesame Street game. Kinect used to make fun demos.
10:37AM: Star Wars Kinect on show. Use it to guide your lightsaber and Force powers. Almost like Infinity Blade on the iPad.
10:28AM: Minecraft coming to Xbox 360 and Kinect. Disney is getting a Kinect experience. Visit the park and experience it like never before.
10:26AM: Peter Molyneux shows Fable: Journey. Age of heroes is over; when they're no longer born, they must be made. You use your two hands with the Kinect to cast spells in a first person mode.
10:24AM: Turn 10 up for Forza 4. It has Kinect voice commands and headtracking.
10:22AM: Halo anniversary edition shown: a "fully-remastered" campaign with co-op over Xbox Live and multiplayer maps. November 15.
10:20AM: Ryse trailer: hand-to-hand combat in Rome using the Kinect.
10:18AM: Gears of War 3 demo: Ice-T (an actor on the game) is there too. Using Silverbacks (battle suits) tot take on a gigantic enemy worm-like enemy. Ice-T is bringing back his rock band to do a song for the game.
10:11AM: Showing a preview of the new Xbox experience! Looks like Windows Phone 7 or Windows 8. YouTube coming to Xbox Live. Bing voice search is coming to Xbox Live: find games, movies, and other content. Command is "Xbox Bing" followed by what you want to look for.
Xbox live TV coming: effortless, approachable. More engaging when you're the controller. NXE is coming in the fall.
UFC fighting coming to Xbox 360 too. Live shows with on-screen options to predict the fight and check stats.
10:00AM: Ubisoft shows Ghost Recon: Future Soldier. Gunsmith feature: lets you create 20 million combinations of guns down to their individual parts. Kinect uses gestures and voice to create custom weapons. You can have presets: "optimize for close combat" (or range). Get to test it in a range area. All future Tom Clancy games will use Kinect.
9:51AM: New Tomb Raider due 2012.
EA Sports' head Peter Moore is up. "This feels vaguely familiar," he says, referring to the old Microsoft post. Four EA Sports games to use Kinect in 2012.
Ray Muzyka of Bioware up. Showing Mass Effect 3. Pleased to say it's going to support Kinect. Voice recognition! Speak out the dialogue tree options to go through with them. In battle, you can order teammates around. "Liara, move up!" Or using biotic powers. Best game in the series whether it's Kinect or not.
9:48AM: Crystal Dynamics shows the rebooted Tomb Raider. Lara survives a brutal incident, wounded and has to navigate through caves. Very different experience than most of the earlier games. Lots of natural disasters and quick time events.
9:43AM: Don Mattrick from Microsoft up. Incredible time for games and innovation. The world's greatest storytellers are redefining our industry. People of all ages flocking to it. Next wave of Kinect experiences being shown. Unveiling a new way to experience television (Xbox Live Diamond confirmed!).
9:41AM: Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer Games up to talk about MW3. Putting our hearts and souls in this game. November 8.
9:37AM: And we're up. Modern Warfare 3 trailer is playing. They have a "reconnect controller" notice to prove that this is actual gameplay and not a cutscene. Genuinely impressive even for a COD game.
9:30AM: "The briefing is about to begin." Music has taken a different tempo, but we're not live yet.
9:28AM: Sounds like they may plan to start on time. Many keynotes often run a few minutes late (including the WWDC keynote half an hour from now).
9:24AM: 6 minutes to go. Not surprisingly, Xbox luminaries like Major Nelson (Larry Hryb) and Stepto (Stephen Toulouse) are here. Voice search is one of the rumored additions for Kinect users. We're also hearing about an anniversary edition of the original Halo.
9:04AM: Waiting for the show to start; occasionally Microsoft shows Gamertags of the press who registered for the show (including ours).
