Acer Ethos notebooks meant for multimedia use

Computer maker Acer has recently shown off two new notebooks for multimedia users in its Ethos line with the 5951G and 8951G. They offer a unique touch in a detachable touchpad that doubles as a multimedia remote control. The 5951G has a 15.6-inch screen and gets a resolution of 1366x768.

It offers a choice of Intel’s Sandy Bridge processors, ranging from a Core i3 to a 2GHz, quad-core Core i7. It will offer as much as 16GB of RAM and NVIDIA’s GT555M or GT540M graphics processors. It can also be had with a hard drive up to 750GB in capacity as well as either a Blu-ray drive or burner or standard DVD burner. It weighs 7.27lbs.

The Ethos 8951G can also be had with Core i3, Core i5 or Core i7 CPUs, with the fastest being the 2.3GHz i7. It is also larger, getting an 18.4-inch, 1080p LCD. Both share a frameless, ultrathin design. Otherwise, the specs and options are identical to the smaller new notebook.

The duo launches at the same time in mid-June, at least in the UK, priced at the equivalent and tax inclusive price of $1,640 (£999). [via SlashGear]
