Nintendo 3DS gets update on schedule

Nintendo as promised pushed out its major firmware update for the 3DS overnight on Tuesday. The upgrade gives it a web browser and access to the eShop for downloading games. Both Excitebike and Pokedex 3D also come along with the upgrade.

The update is the first significant fix since the glasses-free 3D system shipped to the US in March and adds features that were present on the DSi but skipped over in the rush to get the 3DS on selves. It doesn't yet include some alluded-to extras, such as its short-form 3D video downloads.

Nintendo is expected to talk more about the 3DS as a platform at its E3 keynote this morning.
