Problems said to be limited to select users
Skype has been hit with yet another service outage, less than two weeks after the company faced similar problems. In a blog post, representative Peter Parkes suggests the issue is limited to "a small number" of users, though the extent of the service interruption initially extended to 22 million users. The company claims to have identified a configuration problem that it is still working to fix late in the morning.
"We are continuing to address today's problems, and are seeing indications that the situation is improving," writes Parkes.
The company worked to resolve problems with its system late in May, eventually asking users to delete an XML file to resolve the problems. The most significant outage occurred late last year, when a worldwide outage was left unsolved for several days before users were reconnected.
Although Microsoft has moved to acquire Skype, the companies have yet to begin formal collaboration until the government approves the deal. The recent problems have nonetheless added another stain to Skype's reputation as the $8.5 billion deal moves forward.
