Wii U to have 25GB discs, cost more than Wii did
Nintendo’s just-released Wii U will cost more to make and sell than the current Wii console, said the company’s president Satoru Iwata recently. It is capable of playing back HD resolution content and has an advanced wireless controller with a built-in touchscreen. The Wii launched in Japan at the equivalent of $313 back in 2006, but the Wii U will more than likely cost more than that.
It will also eclipse the price of the existing $250 console in the US. But the Wii will likely continue to be produced, with Iwata adding that he doesn’t think the Wii is going anywhere anytime soon.
At the same time, Kotaku learned from an interview with Nintendo chief designer Katsuya Eguchi that the proprietary game discs will hold 25GB of data. Eguchi wouldn’t confirm if the Wii U will have 8GB of flash memory onboard, however. It will, however, support external USB drives for added storage capacity.
