ASUS Transformer 3G and Slider hit UK in August

ASUS UK told fans late this week that the 3G version of the Eee Pad Transformer and the yet to be launched Eee Pad Slider were both coming to the country in August. A more specific timeframe and pricing were due to come for the Android 3 tablets closer to the actual release. Both of the variants have been mentioned as early as CES in January but hadn't received concrete detail until now.

The company explained the late addition of the 3G Transformer as a shift in priority. Interest in the Wi-Fi version was "much higher," ASUS said, so it started on the simpler, cheaper model. "A lot of users said that they would be happy to tether their 3G smartphone," the company said in a follow-up comment.

American launch details haven't been slipped out. ASUS typically waits until closer to the on-shelves date to provide information and may not have more models beyond the Wi-Fi Transformer until later than the UK. Demand has been very high worldwide relative to other Android tablet designers and have triggered rare shortages that have hurt ASUS' ability to expand its reach.
