PC features standalone wireless keyboard/mouse

Acer is launching its Revo RL100 Media Center in the US. The small footprint PC's signature trick a detachable wireless pad that acts either as a keyboard or a mouse and helps it fit into home theaters with a minimum of extra space. It is powered by a 1.3GHz Athlon II Neo dual-core processor that gives it unusual performance for something in its size class.

This device was originally shown at IFA last September. At that time it was positioned as a nettop PC. It was introduced into Europe late last year as a multimedia nettop. For the US, the base configuration has been beefed up to include a 750GB hard drive and 4GB DDR3 SDRAM, and is being marketed as a multimedia center.

Audio is 5.1 channel with Dolby Home Theater inside. An NVIDIA Ion graphics processor provides 1080p HD video decoding over the HDMI link. The RL100 supports Acer clear.fi, which enables the PC to automatically detect and network with DLNA (Digital Living Network Alliance) devices such as some NAS, Xbox 360s, and Playstation 3s.

The Acer Revo RL100 is available now for a base $500. Its price with a Blu-ray drive climbs up to $570.
