Remotely manageme Home Server from smartphone
Microsoft has made available the Release Candidate of Windows Server Solutions Phone Connector. The app enables a user to manage a server running Windows Home Server 2011 via a Windows Phone 7 mobile device. Using the connector, a user can both remotely control the server itself and relay media streams.
Upon launching the Connector, the user is presented a series of panoramas that give insight into the active and disabled alarms present on the Server. The user can then either enable a predetermined response to an alert or deactivate it. The second panorama helps manage user accounts. Through it, users can check on or change account details and access rights. A third panorama allows the user to see which PCs and Macs are linked to the server as well as their backup status when relevant.
The Connector also provides discovery and streaming of music, pictures and most videos stored on the server.
When the user is not actively managing a Home Server via the connector, status can still be monitored through a live tile on the home screen, such as the number of new alerts and storage use.
