WD shows Nomad case for My Passport drives

WD on Wednesday announced the release of its WD Nomad rugged case made to house its My Passport portable hard drives. It will also protect them from drops from up to seven feet, as well as moisture and spills. The polycarbonate exterior is paired with a shock-absorbing elastomer interior.

The case meets MIL-STD 810G standards for ruggedness. Dirt, dust and moisture are kept out of the interior thanks to a heavy-duty latch and silicon liner. Accessing the drive doesn't require opening it either, as users can open an access door for the USB connector. Attaching the case to a pack is also easier thanks to a built-in ring.

The case is now shipping for $30 and is compatible with all five My Passport hard drives from WD.
