Facebook planning deep social music integration
Facebook is making plans for deep social music integration features in a future development of the platform, according to a report. A key partner in the project will be Spotify, which recently hinted that its subscription music service will soon be launching in the US. However, Facebook is also thought to be reaching out to other music service providers to get them involved too. Gigaom expects that Facebook’s music integration plans will be unveiled at its upcoming f8 annual developer conference.
At f8, Facebook is expected to unveil a music platform that integrates its Facebook Connect and Facebook Likes functions. It will feature in the the left-hand column of its site where Facebook will add a new tab called Music. Clicking on this link will open a new page called Music Dashboard.
This page will include a snapshot of the music a user has been listening and from which music service. It will also show top tracks and the number of times they have been played. Of course, users and their friends will also be able to recommend music to each other.
The push into social music is part of Facebook’s attempt to continue driving users to its site in order to capitalize on the growing social-powered, e-commerce trend.
