Source tips 'radical' iPhone 5 design, event in August

updated 11:15 am EDT, Tue June 21, 2011

iPhone 5 may be significant redesign after all

Beliefs that the next iPhone would be a major redesign gained support Tuesday after a fresh September window to make it public; BGR understood it might schedule an event in early-to-mid August.

The shipping product might arrive at the end of that same month, according to the tip.

What that design would look like wasn't mentioned but was previously identified as a teardrop-like shape. Some rumors have pointed to a larger, edge-to-edge screen. Others have pointed to a cross between the two.

The tip has partly been contradicted by Apple itself, which doesn't see iOS 5 shipping until the fall. Most every iOS device has been accompanied by a new software release and would be unlikely to ship on iOS 4 just before the upgrade was due to arrive.

    can't visualize...

teardrop-like shape? I know what a teardrop looks like... but I can't see its shape being used for a smartphone...

    Woohoo!

Radical, man! It's the mountain dew of phones! Maybe they'll call it the iPhone xTreme!

Then again, since it's all rumor, who cares. And since another person's idea of 'radical redesign' was the iPhone 4 (it's got glass on the front AND back!), then it may mean absolutely nothing at all.

    Android killed itself...

with its shithouse user experience, poor stability, and security vulnerabilities.

Oh, and with having tossers like you representing the typical Android user.

    Adds up to me

    Announce in August
    Release in September

How does this "Contradict" a Fall IOS 5 release?
