Lineup includes routers, booster, adapter

D-Link has expanded its range of home networking products with a new lineup, labeled the Amplifi series. The products include the HD Media Router 1000, the Whole Home Router 1000, the Wi-Fi Booster, and several PowerLine 500 products designed for communication via existing electrical wiring. The media router is claimed to automatically manage broadband connections, giving the highest priority to entertainment content such as streaming video or online video games.

The home router features 'SmartBeam' technology that is said to be optimized for large homes, with six multidirectional antennas designed to track individual devices and focus signals based on specific locations. The booster can also be used in conjunction with other routers, providing additional range and support for four additional devices.

For homes built with locations that prove difficult for wireless technology, the PowerLine products uses standard power outlets for data communication. The system is said to enable transfer rates of up to 500Mbps, speeds capable of handling multiple video streams or other high-bandwidth content.

The HD Media Router is now available for $150, while the Whole Home Router will ship in August for $120 and the Booster is already on the market for $160. Customers can buy a single PowerLine adapter for $100, a two-pack starter kit for $160, or a four-port Gigabit switch for $200.
