Archos unveils Android-based home phone, connected radio

updated 02:30 pm EDT, Thu June 23, 2011

35 Smart Home Phone, 35 Home Connect

Alongside Archos' two new tablets introduced today, the company has also unveiled two new Android-based devices for the home: the 35 Smart Home Phone and 35 Home Connect radio. The home phone connects to standard landlines or ADSL boxes, but allows users to take advantage of Android features such as apps, MP3 ringtones, and photo display for caller ID. A front-facing camera also enables video calling to other Android handsets or computers.

The Home Connect radio provides an Android interface that enables users to connect to web-based radio stations or locally-stored music. The device also offers an alarm clock app with weather, traffic and news information, while enabling users to install a range of other Android Market titles. A front-facing camera can be used for video calling or room surveillance.

The 35 Home Connect is slated to arrive this summer for $149, while the Smart Home Phone will ship around the same time for $159.
