ITC pushes Kodak view on Apple and RIM to June 30
The ITC on Thursday postponed its decision on Kodak's loss to Apple and RIM in a patent infringement complaint. The US agency was to have said whether a second look found Apple and RIM violating image preview patents but has instead put off that decision to June 30. No reason was given for the setback.
The case has largely been a stalemate for both sides. In addition to Kodak losing an initial verdict for its original complaint, Apple lost at the ITC as well in its own countering argument.
Kodak has been convinced it owns key patents for mobile camera technology and has successfully targeted other phone producers such as LG and Motorola that now license its patents. The company has admitted using lawsuits as a business model and has been focused on collecting royalties to compensate for its inability to compete in digital cameras. If Kodak loses, it stands to be cut out of two of the largest smartphone makers' profit.
