Acer Iconia Tab A500 should get Android 3.1 on July 5

Long-awaited upgrade may be limited to Europe

Acer said that the long-awaited Android 3.1 touchup for its 10-inch Iconia Tab A500 would be coming as an OTA update beginning July 5. The announcement came on company's German Facebook page. The Iconia Tab A500 is the last Android tablet to upgrade from the original flavor of Honeycomb. The Motorola Xoom tablet was the first to update, in early May.

The Facebook posting alluded to the delay by thanking customers for their patience. Acer had originally said the update for the A500 would happen in June, but has been silent on the topic since making that announcement.

The improvements in the OS update include resizable widgets, better support for USB devices, and a performance boost, among others.

The company has not said when the update will be available for US owners of the A500. [via tabtech (German)]
