Hits 3-millionth download
In early May, HBO launched its HBO Go app for iPads, iPhones, Android OS devices and PCs. The app provides subscribers with streamed viewing of almost 1,400 HBO TV shows, sports, and movies. Today, the app is expected to see its three-millionth download.
HBO Go is the content provider's contribution in the battle between the cable companies and streamed content services such as Netflix. HBO is offering access to more than just to its archives of popular shows such as The Sopranos or Sex and the City. It is also streaming new shows such as True Blood and Game of Thrones immediately after their being shown on cable.
This is programming that is not available on Netflix or most other subscription services. It is also all episodes in a series, not just a few, as is offered by Hulu's Plus service.
With HBO Go, the company is hoping to build and reinforce loyalty with the 28 million cable subscribers who also subscribe to HBO's premium content. [via CNET]

um, no
HBO is not seeing rapid growth. They are seeing rapid growth of downloads of their iOS app. There is a BIG difference between the two.
