HP beats Apple to tablet-native Facebook with TouchPad app

HP to have Facebook app on TouchPad

HP may stake out a rare first in the tablet space by having the first tablet-native Facebook app developed inside the social network itself. Beating even the iPad app, the webOS slate will get virtually all of the feature set, including Places and Photos. Sections seen in TechCrunch's view saw not just the usual news feed but a tile view that makes better use of the available space.

Although intended for HP's platform, the interface appears to be designed in a way that could port it over to the iPad with few cosmetic changes. As such, it could be an early preview of the iPad app with only a few necessary swaps required.

Whether or not the Facebook app makes the July 1 release date for the TouchPad is still undetermined, but it's doubtful the iPad app will release at the same time. The app isn't the first optimized for a tablet of any kind, as a PlayBook-native app was released in May. Much of its code was written by RIM, however, and doesn't have as many features.

    Wait a minute

How can the playbook be considered the first native Facebook app if written by RIM and not written by Facebook?

How can the TouchPad Facebook app be considered beating Apple when there is no ToucPad product in the market yet?

If we consider apps made by non Facebook developers then iOS had native Facebook apps for a long time!

Please define your use of native? And let's keep it to shipping products.

    A Catalyst? Facebook?

Since when did Facebook become America's catalyst for economic change? It's almost laughable how overly-inflated the financial sector is right now, with everyone casting their lots on the "next big thing".

Damn it, look at Apple! They have actual products! What product does Facebook sell? Ego? That's always been relatively cheap. I don't see this fascination with FB ending in anything but a burst bubble.
