EA label president very impressed by Wii U
At an interview with EA Games Label President Frank Gibeau at E3, Games Industry learned [sub. required] the games publisher is very excited about the upcoming Nintendo Wii U console. Gibeau is especially impressed by the console's ability to reproduce HD graphics and access game experiences in what he describes as a completely novel way. He went on to say Nintendo's methods run parallel with what EA plans for its FIFA, Madden and game lineups. Gibeau went on to say EA has been working with Nintendo on developing games for the console for a "little while" and stressed the importance of releasing appealing games for the console that take advantage of the system's capabilities right when it launches. He also said games will be shown off when they're looking ready and right. Being one of the first publishers with impressive games is key to build as big an audience as possible, he continued.
He hinted that EA's online component, Origin, will eventually be a big part of the Wii U if the company had its full plans realized.
The Wii U is estimated to be about 50 percent faster than the PS3 and Xbox 360. While it may be outpaced by future Xbox and Sony systems, it should be fast enough that it can easily handle current-generation games ported over from rivals as well as Wii U-specific games that show extra content on its unique six-inch touchscreen controller.
