HTC Status brings ChaCha to ATT and Telus

AT&T and Telus together formally launched the HTC Status. The North American version of the ChaCha, it adapts to North American HSPA 3G bands but is otherwise virtually identical to the international version. Pricing and ship dates for both are still unknowns.

The Android 2.3 phone's focus is a hardware Facebook button that lets users quickly jump to the social network. A BlackBerry-like design rare in the Android world gives it an atypical, squat 2.6-inch, 480x320 display. In spite of the design, it still finds room for a five-megapixel camera. HTC uses a custom version of Sense that fits the wide aspect ratio.

Most expect the Status to cost $100 or less on a contract, though whether it will appear in the black and violet color schemes on either AT&T or Telus is uncertain.
