Ubuntu OS is virtualized onto Galaxy Tab 10.1
GalaxyTabHacks has posted detailed instructions on how interested parties can install Ubuntu Linux onto the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1. The hack finds a way to use the distribution without completely overriding Android. Dubbed Tabuntu, the OS runs as it would on a virtual machine.
The mod allows users to run native Linux programs on the tablet. The host Galaxy Tab needs to be rooted, and the instructions are rather detailed, though they are available in the development video (below). Busybox also needs to be installed onto the host Tab. The source site above also has links to the files users will need to download.
The creator of the mod admits the browser exhibits lag but can be used, and is said to be only slightly slower than the Motorola Atrix' special WebTop docking. In the future, he will also attempt to remove all unneeded packages from Ubuntu and add optimizations.
