Roku 2 HD gets early unveiling
The Roku 2 HD, which surfaced in pictures courtesy of its recent appearance at the FCC, has now been caught in unboxing photos ahead of its official launch. The likely reason for the early unboxing pics (embedded below) is that it is a test unit intended for beta hardware testers. As Engadget speculates, the packaging which looks close to finalized, seems to imply that Roku is happy with the hardware, but may need to work on ironing out any kinks in the software ahead of its release.
Based on the Roku's FCC filing for the set-top device is that it will ship in three versions, the 300X, 3050X and the 3100X. Like the Apple TV revision, the new device is considerably smaller than previous Roku boxes. The FCC filing also reveals that it will ship with 802.11n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and a microSD slot.
The lower end model will likely be limited to an output of 720p, while the top end models will support 1080p. The best model is also equipped with a USB 2.0 port, an Ethernet port and an RF remote control as seen in the pictures.
