Sony S1, S2 tablets shown off in Germany

Sony showed off its S1 and S2 tablets at an event in Munich for the first time and German site Golem shared its experience with the devices in a video (below). Specs for the devices weren't shared, but it was clear from the hands-on time that the tablets are designed with gameplay in mind. The S2, with its twin 5.5-inch screens, reminded the Golem staffer of the Nintendo DS as it folded onto itself.

The S2 also sported a PlayStation logo on its body for further evidence of its gaming-ready credentials. The 9.4-inch, single screen S1 lacked a PlayStation logo but it should also have the ability to play some PlayStation-branded games. Crash Bandicoot of PlayStation fame was played on the large tablet in a 4:3 aspect ratio. The tablet was also subjectively light, estimated at about 600g (1.3 pounds).

A proprietary USB port sits behind a closed door though Sony didn't reveal what it is meant to connect to. The interface, meanwhile, is said to be a heavily modified version of Android 3.0, though it may not yet be finalized as Sony didn't allow photos to be taken.

The tablets are due to launch in the fall, confirming an earlier report, though no idea on pricing have yet been given. The IFA show in Berlin in September appears to be an ideal time to launch the devices.
