Google+ quietly adds check-ins

updated 02:30 pm EDT, Fri July 1, 2011

Lets people know the where as well as what

Earlier this week, Google unveiled Google+ for both computers and mobile devices. Having previously touted many of the tools it integrated into the social networking service, such as Circles, Hangouts, and video chats, it has also without mention included check-ins. On the new service, the addition will let people in a Circle know where they are as well as what they are doing.

Check-ins aren't new to Google. It has had check-ins for Google Latitude since February.

Competing social networking apps, such as Facebook and Foursquare, also offer check-in functionality. Google's main differentiator is that it offers the user greater privacy and control over which people can see what they are doing. [via About Foursquare]
