Moto Droid Bionic may finally ship August 4
An escaped screen cap has shown what could be the first tentative release date for the remade Droid Bionic. The company's schedule has Motorola's 4G leader shipping on August 4. Android Central also got additional support for the Droid 3 shipping July 14.
The Bionic was shown to us at CES in early prototype form and was to have been one of the LTE-based 4G Android phones shipping in the spring. A decision was made to scrap the existing design just weeks later and is now believed to be relabeling a different phone, the Targa, in its place. As seen so far, the Bionic will have switched to a dual-core TI OMAP processor instead of the NVIDIA Tegra 2 that created conflicts with Motorola's 4G chips. It may be Verizon's largest phone yet with a 4.5-inch, 540x960 screen.
Despite showstopping Android 2.3 bugs, the Bionic may have Google's latest phone OS and the matching new version of Motorola's Blur interface on top.
Neither Motorola nor Verizon has confirmed details of the new Bionic. An appearance at the FCC has left few obstacles in its way and could see it ship on track with the discovered timetable.
