Series adds Core i3 to CPU choice

Lenovo has reportedly begun shipping its latest ultraportable ThinkPad, the X121e. The device represents the successor to the X120e, sharing the same 11.6-inch 1366x768 display and offering a choice between several AMD Fusion processors. The new offerings expand the range of available CPUs, however, with three new configurations based on Intel's second-generation Core i3-2357M chip.

The X121e offers three USB 2.0 ports, Gigabit Ethernet, HDMI and VGA outputs, an SD card reader, an integrated webcam, and 802.11n Wi-Fi. Upgraded configurations step up to a 320GB HDD or 128GB SSD, WiMAX radio, six-cell battery, and Bluetooth 3.0.

The ultraportables running AMD's Fusion C-50 or E-350 processors are claimed to reach 3.5 to 4.1 hours with the three-cell battery, or 7.2 hours with the six-cell pack, while the i3 variants are said to reach 3.8 or 7.7 hours depending on the battery option.

The X121e is said to be shipping in Japan to businesses, with prices ranging from 69,300 yen (~$855 USD) to 100,000 yen (~$1,233 USD). The company is expected to begin consumer sales before the end of the month. [via Netbooknews]
