Apple rumroed kicking out iPad HD with pro editing
A new rumor Thursday maintains that Apple is not only building a Retina Display-grade iPad but that it will be an entirely new sister model. The new version would have the long rumored 2048x1536 screen and get an "iPad HD" name. Rather than work as a direct sequel, though, the device described to This is my next would be a pro complement and would even get pro creative apps, which could include equivalents to Aperture or Final Cut Pro.
The accuracy of the claim is difficult to determine. Apple has been preparing 2048x1536 art that would make sense, but Apple has almost always kept its iOS lineups simple, with only one current model. Apple would also very likely need a new processor and graphics cores that would probably reach the regular iPad regardless. Most expectations have Apple keeping to a yearly update schedule.
The same tips do offer a potential explanation for repeated references to an iPhone 4S. Apple is still reportedly providing a true iPhone redesign but has been using the new parts in iPhone 4 cases to mask its origins. The company may be testing new hardware features like a slightly larger screen that would still fit in a slightly modified frame.
Apple was scrapping the iPhone 4 body for the high end after just a year because it was "out of favor" among executives, according to the sources of the rumor.
Reports here have been conflicting, although even a conservative body is believed to be getting a tweak with a moved camera flash. Apple's past policy has been to introduce a noticeably different new model when possible and to keep the old model around as its economy design.
Any of the introductions, if real, are very likely to show at an Apple-run event in or near September.
