Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc reaches US

Sony Ericsson on Thursday quietly brought the Xperia Arc to the US through an unlocked version at Sony's online store. The Android 2.3 headliner we first tried at CES is identical to the one sold in Canada and has its support for AT&T-friendly 3G, just derestricted to work with any GSM carrier. T-Mobile USA users can use the phone but will be stuck using 2G.

The Arc's signature feature is its namesake curved design, which at 8.7mm (0.34 inches) is thinner than an iPhone 4. Many of the components are similar or better to those in the Xperia Play, taking on the 1GHz Snapdragon but bringing in a low-light friendly eight-megapixel Exmor camera and a larger 4.2-inch display. Sony Ericsson's custom Timescape interface persists but logically lacks PlayStation Suite apps.

As an unlocked phone, the Xperia Arc carries an unsubsidized $600 price for a version with an 8GB microSDHC card but also isn't tied to a contract.
