Tablet PC production ramping up

Upstream component suppliers for tablet PCs are making preparations to ramp up tablet production for the fall quarter. Combined demand for tablet PCs and iPads is expected to grow significantly over summer shipments. Digitimes sources claim around 13.5 – 14.5 million tablets will have shipped by the end of summer, which is set to increase to over 21 million in the next quarter.

Apple is expected make up the lion’s share of sales and is said to be taking an order from Foxconn of between 14 and 15 million iPads for the quarter. The remaining 7 million or so tablets will comprise white-box devices and those shipped by manufacturers including RIM, Motorola, Acer, Asustek, Lenovo and Samsung that began shipping tablets during the second quarter. Amazon and Hewlett-Packard will also join the tablet battle in the next quarter.

Interestingly, Amazon’s rumored tablets could reach as many as 1-1.2 million shipments over the fall according to Digitimes sources.
