Spotify US ad promo materials reveal 50m goal

Spotify's advertising promotional materials sent to AllThingsD reveal the European streaming music service is ambitiously planning to snag 50 million users in its first year of operation in the US. The company is touting its partnership with Facebook as a big contributor to this number, with 150 million Facebook users getting invitations to sign up for Spotify. The company is also promising advertisers will be able to build music apps on their sites and on their Facebook pages.

The company has been operating for a few years and back in March announced it reached one million paying subscribers. There are also supposedly seven million active users. Both these numbers pale in comparison to the 50 million boast.

The company also promises and expects 370 thousand brand impressions during the launch period, trying to appeal to potential advertisers.

At the start of the year, Rhapsody, another music service, had about 750,000 paying subscribers in the US, which puts Spotify's hopes into perspective. While iTunes numbers aren't available, the store is estimated to sell about two thirds of all digital music in the US.
