Apple runs AirPlay, FaceTime ads for iPhone 4's last hurrah

iPhone 4 AirPlay and FaceTime ads pop up
Apple tonight ran two new TV ads for the iPhone 4 (below), both of which focus on features that are genuinely rare on rival platforms. "AirPlay" shows its namesake wireless audio and video streaming to speakers as well as photos and videos. "FaceTime" demos two-way video calling between two iPhones, with a Mac, and with an iPad.
You miss both features "if you don't have an iPhone," Apple says, keeping in line with its current ad campaign.
The two spots may serve as an endcap for the iPhone 4's unusually long life on shelves. Apple is widely presumed to be shipping the iPhone 5 in September and may not have new ads again with likely eight weeks left to go.
Apple has made claims that are at times tenuous in the ads, touting iBooks and other features as advantages when Android and other platforms have equivalents. AirPlay is unique in lacking a real parallel in Android. Google is promising an equivalent in Android@Home but doesn't have software or accessories in production. FaceTime finally got an equivalent this spring when Android 2.3.4 brought official chat, but a splintered platform means just a small fraction of Android users will see the feature today.
