Integrate processor with EPD/KCD controllers

Freescale Semiconductor has expanded its iMX50 family of applications processors. The three new products, the iMX502, iMX503 and iMX507 offer ARM Cortex-A8 800MHZ cores with integrated LCD controllers. The iMX507 adds an integrated Electronic Paper Display (EPD) hardware-based display controller. The combination of processor and controller is well suited for uses such as e-readers as well as outdoor signs and even smart labels.

The base model, the iMX502, integrates an LCD controller supporting resolutions up to 1280x1024. It targets the smallest hardware, including DECT phones and vending machine displays. The iMX503 adds OpenVG vector acceleration. It's suited for security panels, home and patient monitoring, office automation and home appliance control. The iMX507 embeds an EPD controller and can be used for the full e-reader level of hardware.

All three products will be available to device producers now for sampling with volume production ready this fall. They join the iMX508, which already is in production.
