LG Cosmos 2 due at Verizon this week for $30

Verizon and LG on Tuesday revealed they will begin shipping the successor to the Cosmos horizontal slider phone with the Cosmos 2. It retains the same layout, including the four-row hardware QWERTY keyboard once the face is slid open, but has a sleeker look and more modern software. It carries a web web browser and shortcuts for Facebook, MySpace and Twitter.

Users can quickly switch between English, Spanish, simplified Chinese and Korean for the languages of the device, and a new Mobile Email app allows them to send and receive text and picture attachment. They can play back MP3, WMA, AAC and AAC+ music files and view a plethora of document formats. Storage comes from microSD memory cards, with up to 32GB versions supported.

A 1.3-megapixel camera is onboard, as is Bluetooth 2.1. Supported voice commands focus on calling and messaging as well as getting help.

The handset will cost $30 after a $50 mail-in rebate and a two-year contract.
