Twitter Android gets notifications, multi-account

Twitter on Wednesday updated its Android app (free, Android Market) to catch up to the iPhone version. Android owners now get push notifications like their iPhone peers and can choose whether to limit it to mentions and direct messages or expand it to everyone. Multi-account support also comes to Android for the first time with a quick switch.

Home screen widgets have also been freshened up, and a number of unspecified bug fixes and tweaks have made their way into the release.

The current app needs at least Android 2.1 and gets its full integration with the OS on Android 2.2 or later.
