RIM Cyclone to have Netflix and YouTube

RIM's BlackBerry Media Box has been given a name and preliminary features in a follow-up rumor. Internally codenamed the Cyclone, it's said to resemble a larger version of the BlackBerry Presenter (pictured). NerdBerry's source for the tips was told it would have Netflix and YouTube at a minimum for services.

The media hub would appropriately look for and share content from other devices on the network. Hardware details are scarce outside of HDMI output and Wi-Fi for networking.

RIM has been working on creating a more Apple-like ecosystem for some time and added the BlackBerry PlayBook as part of what may be a larger strategy to move beyond just its core phones. The Cyclone would help RIM improve media playback on its usually business-centric hardware as well as give it a footprint even in homes where no one owns a BlackBerry.

    Hire More CEOs!

If this is what we get with two CEOs, let's see what dumb ideas they come up with when they have three or four CEOs!

    Why?

why would anyone at all buy this? it doesn't do anything several other well established STB's don't do already.

it appears RIM has totally lost touch reality and are living in a fantasy RIM-world.

    Blackberrys are not Apples

Why RIM is suddenly trying really really hard to be an Apple them self. they shift 180 degree away from their corporate market niche to general public with music oriented ads campaign and now media oriented product. With so much player in the entertainment segment, how they can think they can be successful??

    Me too! Me too!

Wow. Let's see a show of hands. Who thought Microsoft was the worlds best Apple-copier?

Instead of blindly mimicking Apple products, RIM should focus on evolving their BlackBerry line. They could have done that instead of wasting time, money, mindshare, and carbon footprint on PlayBook. And now Cyclone. Pitiful.

    And the GUI!?

Owning a BlackBerry Bold (pictured, apparently) and having used BB OS 5 and 6 on it, I feel quite comfortable stating that these guys are NOT good with interface design! I can only imagine you WOULD need a BlackBerry to navigate the interface if its of similar ilk!
