Samsung Admire enroute with stock Gingerbread OS

MetroPCS is set to get a phone running Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) in the shape of the Samsung SCH-R720. When it launches sometime between August and September it will be branded as the Samsung Admire. When it joins the MetroPCS line-up, it will replace the discontinued LG Optimus M.

The Samsung Admire centers on a 3.5-inch HVGA display and is powered by a mid-range 800MHz processor, likely an ARM Cortex-A8 variant. The phone will also run a plain vanilla version of Android 2.3, which is good news for owners looking for faster OS upgrades into the future. On the rear is a modest 3.2-megapixel camera that is also capable of capturing video, while its radio is expected to be a 3G CDMA type.

When it ships, it is expected to carry a $200 price tag on a two-year plan before an instant rebate of $50 bringing its price down to $150. [via Phone News]
