HTC Puccini clears FCC with AT&T, Rogers LTE 4G

HTC Puccini approved for use in US before launch

The FCC late last week approved HTC's first full-size Android tablet, the Puccini, for use in the US. Apart from showing that the 10-inch Puccini will share some of the design of the seven-inch Flyer, the listings show it working on both 700MHz and 1,700MHz bands for LTE-based 4G. The move would let it work not just on AT&T's network when it goes live in the summer but the new Rogers network, which runs on the 1,700MHz band.

The Puccini should be a leap in performance over the Flyer with a dual-core 1.5GHz Snapdragon and a 1280x800 display. When it ships, the tablet will likely have Android 3.1 or 3.2 with a newly optimized version of Sense.

When the Puccini will ship is undetermined and might not happen for some time. HTC's confidentiality request would prevent posting details like the user manual or outside photos until December 30. If HTC waited, it wouldn't be shipping the tablet in the US until 2012. Most anticipate it arriving before the end of the year once at least AT&T believes its network is up to par.
