Serial adapter for iPhone, iPad, iPod touch
Redpark has introduced a new adapter cable that enables iOS devices to work with Arduino microcontroller boards. The cable is currently sold by DIY magazine Make as part of the Redpark Breakout Pack, which also includes the Arduino board, an RS232-to-TTL serial adapter, and a Mintronics Survival Pack with additional components and sensors.
To work with the open-source microcontroller, users will have to obtain the free SDK from Redpark. The SDK is said to be available without an NDA or participation in Apple's Made For iPod program.
The iOS cable now allows users to follow in Android's footsteps, just days after Arduino released a board to work with the search giant's accessory development kit (ADK). The Android variants appear to offer several advantages, including the robust capabilities of Android's ADK along with a USB port for standard cables.
The Breakout Pack for iOS is now available directly from Maker Shed for $80.

A cool toy catering to the original Apple crowd!
- The Old Mac crowd that bought Apple products precisely because users could actually mess with their electronics without voiding the warranty or geting in trouble with the Apple lawyers.
