Microsoft to begin taking Mango apps next month

Microsoft on Wednesday announced it will begin taking developer app submissions for Windows Phone 7 Mango in about one month's time. Developers will have the ability to submit their Mango apps to the App Hub to reach Windows Phone Marketplace in time for the launch. They will be required to use the Windows Phone Release Candidate tools that are expected to be released late in August.

Until then, developers are encouraged to use the free Windows Phone SDK 7.1 Beta 2. Devs can also report and discuss any issues between the beta tools/emulator and production phones on a dedicated forum.

The end of August for app submissions lines up with an earlier report that Microsoft will release Mango in September.

Microsoft also noted WP7 devs have created 23,000 apps in eight months.
