Microsoft exec confirms Avatar Kinect due soon

During a conference at the Research Faculty Summit 2011, Craig Mundie, the chief research and strategy officer from Microsoft Research Connections, confirmed that the Avatar Kinect is indeed coming out in the next few days. While he didn't specify a date, Mundie did say it "will be coming very, very soon," so the rumored July 27 date is certainly believable. He then went on to say "in the few days that remain" and confirmed that it will go live worldwide.

The product involves taking the first step toward three-dimensional, multiparty, telepresence interaction using the existing Kinect technology for the Xbox 360.

Mundie also said Avatar Kinect would be applicable in the mobile environment as it requires little to no extra bandwidth. He said is takes little more than the bandwidth of the voice call itself to animate the avatar in real time.
