Panasonic Raboo UT-PB1 tablet has dual-core CPU

Panasonic Japan has made official a new e-book reader, the Raboo UT-PB1. It sports a seven-inch, 1024x600 color touchscreen and a dual-core processor, though no clock speeds or other details are available. There is 8GB of memory onboard, though only 4.5GB is available to users.

Otherwise, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, a 1.3-megapixel camera and a microSDHC memory card slot are present. Android is partly hidden behind a Panasonic user interface. XMDF-format e-books are supported, as is content from the company's Viera HDTVs. Full HD movies play back in H.264, MPEG-4 or WMV formats, Panasonic claims. AAC, MP3 and WMA music files are playable as well.

When the tablet arrives in Japan on August 10, it will cost 34,800 yen (about $445). Panasonic has been alluding to tablet plans for the US but has remained silent for more than half a year. [via Akihabara]
