ASUS Wavi hits FCC

No word on launch date, pricing

The set top box for the ASUS WAVI Xtion has been approved by the FCC. The WAVI boxes stream data from a Windows PC to a TV over a 5GHz wireless connection. The set top boxes are designed to be used with the Xtion or Xtion Pro motion controller for hands-free media control, web browsing, and gaming.

ASUS teamed with PrimeSense to create the Xtion controllers. Primesense was also part of the team that developed the Kinect controller for the XBox 360.

ASUS showed a prototype WAVI Xtion at CES 2011. Sources say the system may not ship until 2012. ASUS has not announced pricing or availability. The company expects to ship the sensor-only Xtion Pro in August. This version is a "programmer only" model, used for developing apps for the system. [via Engadget]
