Phone expected to ship next month

Samsung has given a strong indication that the company's popular new smartphone, the Galaxy S II, will be hitting US shores soon. Samsung has posted a new live webpage for the phone. The website encourages visitors to sign up to be kept abreast of the phone's imminent release.

The phone is equipped with a 4.3-inch, 540x960 Super AMOLED Plus screen, a dual-core 1.2GHz Exynos processor, a front camera, and a rear eight-megapixel camera.

Although not yet available in the US, the phone, which began shipping internationally in April, is already a strong seller. It sold over five million units in the first 85 days after it was launched.

Sprint, the only confirmed seller of the phone in the US, has not released a ship date. Samsung's mobile chief, JK Shin, however has acknowledged that the phone will be available in the US sometime next month.
