Skype 5.5 for Windows out, integrates Facebook

Skype has just released version 5.5 of its software for Windows. A beta version of the software launched in June, and Skype made several enhancements based on user feedback to the final version. As hinted at by the recent Facebook tie-in, the new software has more Facebook integration.

It allows users to check Facebook friend status without leaving the program and instant message them from a new Facebook Contacts Tab. Facebook status can be updated and comments viewed and posts liked from Skype Home as well.

Outside of Facebook, controls for video and group video calls for Windows have been changed, and the video call reliability was improved as well. Some other, more detailed design changes were also made. Skype emoticons have also been updated and new ones added, all of which now have smoother animations that stand out.

A Mac equivalent to 5.5 is expected but doesn't have a timeline.
