Amazon Appstore stops new apps in Germany
Amazon may have bowed to pressure as the company is telling Appstore developers it has frozen new app submissions coming from Germany. The company explained that a "legal action" from Apple over the Appstore name was barring it from taking any Android apps from those located in the European country, even though they would sell in the US. As expected, Amazon argued the dispute was "without merit," mocoNews' copy of the message read.
New app submissions would come back "soon," though Amazon made no promises as to what that would be.
The exact legal problems blocking Germany aren't clear but may revolve around how international trademark law applies in the country.
Amazon won't take a severe hit from the restriction but may face added pressure. It successfully fended off an injunction in the US but, without a trial start due until October 2012, could see international expansion limited until the dispute is over. The court has suggested Apple might lose, but not for some time.
