Release matches earlier rumors

Confirming earlier rumors, Sprint has released an Android 2.3 update for the Kyocera Echo. The release, which steps up from Android 2.2 Froyo, brings the standard set of Gingerbread UI tweaks, along with the updated Swype 3.0 keyboard and an 'Eco Mode' utility that is claimed to help users manage battery life.

The app provides automatic controls over settings such as screen timeout, display brightness, wallpaper, auto-sync, haptic feedback and auto screen rotation. Users can choose which settings to implement in Eco Mode for power conservation.

Echo owners can wait for an automatic notification for the Gingerbread update, or manually initiate the process from the Android System Update menu.
