Report follows rumors of break with Samsung

Sony is reportedly preparing to revamp its television segment amid ongoing lackluster performance in the market. The electronics maker is even said to be considering fresh partnerships with other companies, in an attempt to reconfigure the production operations, development and sales, Chief Financial Officer Masaru Kato was quoted as saying in a Nikkei report (sub. required).

The report comes just days after a rumor suggested Sony was considering stepping away from its joint venture with Samsung. The companies currently collaborate on LCD panel production through a manufacturing endeavor known as S-LCD. After the rumor surfaced, however, a Sony representative denied the claims.

Sony is expected to post a significant operating loss for its television segment this quarter, after dropping its annual forecast from 27 million TVs to 22 million units. [via Reuters]
